Appel
Appel is a Mario-like 2D action/platform game featuring retro graphics, arcade-style SFX, and some fresh game mechanics that provide a breath of fresh air to the classic yet never-dull genre. There are 9 levels available, with difficulties ranging from not-so-easy all the way to nightmarishly hard.
In each stage, there’s a set number of yellow apples that you’re tasked with finding, some of which are very well hidden. If you’re a creative soul eager to produce some original content, the Level Editor is a relatively simple and very intuitive tool that allows you to do just that.Â
How to play Appel
The gameplay mechanics are fairly simple, but as is often the case with arcade platformers, executing them correctly is very challenging. In the beginning, don’t focus too much on finding all the yellow apples but simply play around to get a better sense of the protagonist’s movement, animations, and abilities.
To excel at this game and stand a chance of completing the later levels, you must practice A LOT, which probably isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. However, the players who embrace a challenge will enjoy it dearly. To play with a friend in local multiplayer, click on the top left icon in the main menu to watch a short story intro, then hit the Space key.
