You begin trapped in a haunted house. Your goal is to escape. To do that you need to explore carefully, find useful items (keys, hammers, pliers, etc.), use them to unlock doors or disable obstacles, and solve puzzles that block your path.

You must avoid two antagonists: Granny, who’s more nimble and uses a stick to attack, and Grandpa, who hits harder with a rake and drains more energy when he hits you. Every hit matters, so stealth and timing are vital.

The game modes change how forgiving the game is. In Practice you’ll have more leeway, in Extreme and Darker mode, visibility, timing, and danger are all ramped up. You’ll often have to make decisions that shape how the story, or at least your route through the house, unfolds. Finding clues and code fragments is essential for unlocking the exit door. If you rush, you’ll likely get caught or miss important items.
