How to play Mahjong Duels?

In Mahjong Duels, the “table” is set with 144 tiles aligned in a predetermined order. There are a total of 136 matching tiles, along with 4 flowers and 4 seasonal tiles, which are sort of “joker” cards — meaning you can match any flower with one another. The same rule applies to seasonal tiles. The goal of the game is to clear the board by selecting matching tiles, which are thereby removed. However, you can't select just any tile you see on the board immediately, but only those which have a “free” left or right edge. Having this in mind, you ought to think strategically about how you approach clearing the board. Since many tiles are stacked atop each other, it’s advisable to clear out the most elevated tiles first, thus redeeming the ones below and creating additional pairing possibilities.

What are the controls for Mahjong Duels?

Note that you can put a single card from the table aside until you've opened up a match for it. There also are “undo,” “shuffle deck” and “hint” buttons available on the right side of your screen.
