Gin Rummy
Gin Rummy is the classic two-player card game, played here against the computer in a race to 100 points.
You build your hand into sets, which are cards of the same rank, and runs, which are cards of the same suit in sequence. Any card that fits neither is deadwood, and the less deadwood you hold when a round ends, the better.
How to Play Gin Rummy?
A round of Gin Rummy starts with a choice: take the face-up card or press Pass. After that, every turn has two steps. First you draw, either the top card of the stock or the top card of the discard pile. Green arrows mark both piles when it is your turn. Then you drag one card from your hand onto the discard pile.
Press the sort button at the bottom right and the game lines up your sets and runs and highlights them in color. A counter shows how many points of deadwood you still hold. When that number gets low, a Knock button appears. Knocking ends the round and lays both hands face up with their deadwood totals.
The developer sums up the scoring like this: your deadwood becomes your opponent's points. Reach 100 points before your opponent and you win the match. If your opponent gets past 100 first, you lose.
Tips and Tricks:
- Look before you draw: The top of the discard pile is face up. Take it only when it completes a set or a run, and draw from the stock the rest of the time.
- Sort often: The sort button shows your sets and runs in color, so the leftover deadwood is easy to spot.
- Watch the counter: Before you discard, think about which loose card brings the deadwood counter down the most.
