Atari Breakout
Atari Breakout is the classic brick breaking arcade game: bounce a ball off your paddle and smash the wall. This version comes from Atari itself, and the idea at its heart has barely needed changing since the 1970s, which tells you how good it was to begin with.
A paddle, a ball and a wall of blocks. Nobody has improved on that, but Atari Breakout does add a few mean twists.
How to Play Atari Breakout?
A ball moves around the screen, bouncing off the top and both sides. Move your paddle along the bottom to keep it in play and send it back up into the blocks, and every block it hits is destroyed. Let it get past you and that ball is gone.
Then pick a mode. Double hands you two paddles to control at the same time. Cavity also gives you two paddles, but starts you with only one ball: the other balls are trapped inside the wall, and you can break them free. In Progressive, the whole wall creeps down toward you step by step, so the longer you take, the less room you have.
Tips and Tricks:
- Watch the ball, not the paddle: Your hand will follow your eyes, so keep them on the ball.
- Free the trapped balls early in Cavity: More balls in play means the wall comes down faster.
- Hurry in Progressive: The wall keeps coming down, so clear it before it closes the gap.
